THREE COLOURS: BLUE

Part one of Kieslowski’s meditation on the three colours of the French Tricolor, Three Colours: Blue follows Julie (Juliette Binoche) as she finds freedom following the death of her husband and daughter. One of the profoundest cinematic examinations of grief, Blue focuses on the transformations from despair and denial through anger to eventual acceptance. Binoche's sullen, withdrawn and frequently wordless performances is a masterclass in screen acting, captured wonderfully by Slawomir Idziak's luminous cinematography.
