“A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism”. A description that does no justice to this extraordinarily rich and perplexing film. Playing as it does with ideas about the mysteries of life and love, the mundane and the sublime, humans and animals (and plants), Upstream Color is a weirdly rigorous and yet dreamlike film which does and says its thing in a way that couldn’t be translated into another medium.
