SONG OF GRANITE

The dramatic tale of sean nós (old style) singer Joe Heaney (Gaelic: Seosamh Ó hÉanaí), boldly exploring the man and his music. Narrative episodes coupled with documentary footage celebrate Heaney’s music whilst creating an unshrinking personal portrait. Born in rural Galway in 1919, Heaney lived in England, Scotland and New York, and appeared at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. He is played by two actors and a sean nós singer (Seoighe, Ó Fathartha and Ó Chonfhaola), and his presence, talent and struggles are conveyed with a minimum of dialogue, using his art to create his story.
