THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER

Charles Laughton was so disappointed by the public reception to his film that he never directed another one. His classic was lost on contemporary audiences but is now seen as the masterpiece that it is with Mitchum’s career topping preacher/psychopath, with the later much copied love and hate knuckle tattoos, dominating a powerful and dark story also blessed with Lillian Gish in gun-toting spinster role.
