MELANCHOLIA

Leave it to Lars von Trier to cause a bit of Cannes controversy. As if 2009's Antichrist wasn't enough, he made sure everyone was aware of his presence at this year's festival. Often more talked about than his films, it's time for Lars to take a step back and let his audience get swept away by his under-stated, sci-fi/drama. Starring former teen sensation Kirsten Dunst, against type, alongside world cinema greats Charlotte Gainsbourg, Charlotte Rampling and John Hurt, this strange and wonderful film focuses on two sisters who find their relationship strained when a nearby planet threatens to collide with Earth.
