LE HAVRE

Finnish Kaurismäki swaps Helsinki for Le Havre. In the French port a young African refugee on the run called Idrissa is helped to evade the authorities by Marcel, an old shoe shiner who takes pity on the child and welcomes him into his home. The film, full of classic film references, is a funny and deadpan reflection on the attitude of northern Europe to desperate refugees from the developing world.
