THE DEEP BLUE SEA

Set in 1950s London, the young wife of a kindly but drab high court judge falls madly in love with an ex RAF pilot and embarks on a passionate but ultimately doomed affair. Eschewing conventional chronology this is an impressionistic mediation on passion and repression. With the rubble strewn streets of post war London reflecting the wreckage of the relationships, and the gas lit pubs offering a warm but brief solace, Davies paints a stiflingly beautiful portrait of the inadequacy of romance.
