DARK RIVER

Following the death of her father, for the first time in 15 years Alice (Wilson) goes back to her home village, to claim tenancy of the family farm that she believes is rightfully hers and that her brother Joe (Stanley) has neglected whilst caring for their infirm father (Bean). Their difficult past is shown in flashbacks, and their relationship turns into open warfare when Alice’s intentions become clear. The film dramatises the widespread financial crisis currently faced by British farmers, and the film’s downbeat mood is coloured by Brexit-related anxiety.
