Difficult themes including sexual abuse within the church are tackled here in an engaging and beautiful thriller. Calvary uses black humour to carry us along a very strong story, resting on the formidable shoulders of Gleeson's character as the Catholic priest exposed to some testing confessions as he wrestles with the dark forces of his own fallibility, as well as that of those around him.
