BABETTE’S FEAST

Based on the short story Babettes Gæstebud by Karen Blixen, author of Den Afrikanske Farm (Out of Africa). In a remote and pious village in 19th-century Denmark two elderly sisters have dedicated their lives to doing good works and holding prayer meetings, having rejected all earthly pleasures. The mysterious refugee Babette arrives in the village and agrees to work as their housekeeper, and on coming into money she cooks the villagers an extraordinary and sumptuous French banquet. The outcome is astonishing and transformative.
